P8749  Immigrant health

An introduction to issues associated with immigrant health. A brief historical overview of immigrant health in the United States. The focus is primarily on current immigrant populations in the United States and New York City and the challenges to providing health care. A general approach to issues on immigrant health is utilized. Topics such as immigrant status (i.e., documented, undocu­mented, refugee, migrant) and health cultural influences in health outcomes, acculturation/assimilation (stress), access to health care, and multicultural approaches to health promotion are addressed.
