P8711 Women and health
Health issues pertaining to historical and contemporary
experiences of women. A review of the conceptualization and
measurement of health and illness in social science research and a
historical overview of the significance of gender in receiving and
providing health care services in the United States. The epidemiology
and social and cultural correlates of women's health status, as well as
the influence of gender on health behavior, are addressed. Women as
health care providers, the medicalization and social
transformation from natural biological processes to diseases, and
the feminist social and health movement are included. Instructor
lectures, guest lectures, and student-led presentations/discussions of
assigned readings.
