Allan Rosenfield, Dean of the Mailman School of Public Health, January 18, 2005 --Allan Rosenfield, MD, dean of the Mailman School of Public Health, is being honored by the National Association of People with AIDS (NAPWA-US), the oldest national AIDS organization in the U.S. Dr. Rosenfield was selected for his lifetime dedication to addressing the public health challenges that the HIV/AIDS pandemic has had on our society and for his outstanding leadership in the fight against HIV/AIDS both domestically and abroad. He receives the award on Tuesday, January 18th at a gala event in Manhattan, headed by an honorary committee that includes both Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton and Senator Charles E. Schumer. Dr. Rosenfield currently serves as chair of the New York State Governor's Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS. Created in 1983, the Advisory Council is responsible for advising the Commissioner of Health and making recommendations about issues related to HIV and AIDS. Dr. Rosenfield also serves as chair of the Public Policy Committee of the American Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR). NAPWA, based in Washington, D.C., was founded in 1983 and advocates on behalf of all people living with HIV and AIDS in order to end the HIV pandemic and the human suffering caused by AIDS.
