Groundbreaking Training on Best Practices for Maternal Survival Co-Sponsored by Mailman School’s AMDD Program

Ifakara, Tanzania - October 20, 2009 – Over 100 distinguished guests from Tanzania and beyond attended the inaugural session of the training course Best Practices for maternal survival in Sub-Saharan Africa, a joint program of the Tanzanian Training Centre for International Health (TTCIH) and the Averting Maternal Death and Disability Program (AMDD) at Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health. This comprehensive training course, taking place from 19 through 31 October, focuses on the development of non-physician clinicians (NPCs) and midwives as an important measure to avert maternal death and disability. The course involves some 50 participants, including non-physician clinicians, midwives and trainers from Ethiopia, Malawi, Tanzania, and Zambia and distinguished lecturers from Tanzania and around the world.
