Lisa Soloff Wins the New York State Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society's Student Essay Competition

Lisa Soloff, a student in the Department of Health Policy and Management, has won the 5th Annual New York State Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society's (NYHIMSS) Student Essay Competition with her essay titled "Marketing Health IT to Medical Students." The HealthcareInformation and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) is the healthcare industry's membership organization exclusively focused on providing leadership for the optimal use of healthcare information technology (IT) and management systems for the betterment of healthcare.

"In years to come," said Ms. Soloff, "IT is going to become increasingly essential to healthcare delivery. I am a strong believer in training tomorrow's doctors today and am pleased that the message of my essay is being recognized by the Society."

Ms. Soloff received an all expenses paid trip to the HIMSS national conference in February in Orlando, Florida. The annual conference is the premier national gathering for healthcare.

EHS Student Article Selected for Best of 2007 Publication

An article on air pollution in Nairobi written by Environmental Health Sciences student Eleanne van Vliet and Patrick Kinney, ScD, associate professor of Environmental Health Sciences, has been published in Environmental Research Letters' (ERL) Best of 2007 issue, a mixture of perspectives and letters chosen by the Editorial Board, guest editors, and the publishing team.

Launched in 2006, ERL is now in its second year as a high impact open-access journal serving the whole environmental science community. This special collection includes contributions to invited focus issues on Environmental Health and Justice, Northern Hemisphere High Latitude Climate Change, Tropical Deforestation, and Global Impacts of Particulate Matter Air Pollution.
