David Rosner Appointed First Ronald H. Lauterstein Professor of Sociomedical Sciences

David Rosner, PhD, professor of Sociomedical Sciences and founding director and current co-director of the Center for the History and Ethics in Public Health, has been appointed the first holder of the Ronald H. Lauterstein Professorship of Sociomedical Sciences.

The late Ronald H. Lauterstein, MPH '58, who passed away in the spring of 2006, was a member of the School's Board of Overseers and a generous benefactor of the School. He provided numerous gifts to the School, including the establishment of the Lauterstein Scholars Program. In bequeathing the majority of his estate to the Mailman School, the School created the Ronald H. Lauterstein Professorship of Sociomedical Sciences to support the director of the Center for the History of Ethics of Public Health.

The Center for the History & Ethics of Public Health brings together a broad array of outstanding Columbia faculty in a truly interdisciplinary effort to make public health history a central and relevant ingredient in both the liberal arts and the public health curricula. The Mailman School congratulates Dr. Rosner as the first professor to hold the Lauterstein endowed chair.
