Ezra Susser and Sharon Schwartz Publish Book in Psychiatric Epidemiology

In June, Oxford University Press published the textbook "Psychiatric Epidemiology: Searching for the Causes of Mental Disorders," co-written by Ezra Susser, MD, DrPH, Anna Cheskis Gelman and Murray Charles Gelman Professor and chair of the Department of Epidemiology, with Sharon Schwartz, PhD, associate professor of Epidemiology, Alfredo Morabia, PhD, of the University Hospital of Geneva, Switzerland, and Evelyn Bromet of SUNY Stonybrook.

Rather than attempting to review the descriptive epidemiology of mental disorders, the authors provide a much more dynamic exposition of the thinking and techniques used to establish it. The book investigates the biologic, genetic, and social causes of mental disorders and explores some of the problems involved in studying dynamic processes and other complex casual relationships.

The first authored textbook on psychiatric epidemiology in more than 30 years, it will become an invaluable resource for anyone trying to track these causes, from clinical researchers, to public health practitioners, to psychiatric epidemiologists-in-training.
