Among their many other activities, The Mailman Office of Career Services (OCS), receives practicum opportunities from a wide variety of sources, including ones from Department of Epidemiology practicum advisors, and compiles them into periodic e-mails to students. In the past, these listings contain only new opportunities and are not comprehensive lists of ones previously e-mailed. Thus, it is important for students who are in the practicum search mode to review each mailing as they generally do not repeat listings from earlier weeks. These e-mails, together with the OCS website, contain a wide array of domestic and international practicum and internship opportunities for students. It should be noted that these listings include opportunities of interest to all Mailman departments so epidemiology students should examine listings carefully to make sure they are suitable for an epidemiology practicum. If in doubt, the student should contact a practicum advisor. The majority of opportunities originating in the Mailman school are located in New York City, but there are a significant and increasing number of international placements available through faculty contacts and global projects.

Many international opportunities are unpaid, but provide a unique opportunity to gain experience on a wide range of health-related issues in varied health care delivery settings. Current international opportunities include work in infectious disease, including HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, injury and trauma, as well as other conditions commonly found in less developed countries. In the past, locations of international opportunities for epidemiology students have included South Africa, the Indian subcontinent, Central and South America, and Asia.
