The Department of Epidemiology requires that all epidemiology students who are not enrolled in the Global Health tract either:
- Complete an epidemiologically-relevant practicum equivalent to 2 or more full-time months or
- Demonstrate equivalent epidemiologically-relevant experience upon matriculation at Mailman
Epidemiology students enrolled in the multi-departmental Global Health Tract need meet only the practicum requirements of that tract which are envisioned currently as a six month practicum at an international site.
Special rules and restrictions apply to international students studying at Mailman. International students must have completed a full academic year (two semesters of full-time student status) before beginning their practicum. Permission to work off-campus must also be approved by the International Students and Scholars Office (ISSO) prior to beginning a practicum. Click here for important information for international students.
We use a central posting system for all practicum opportunities. The Office of Career Services receives our notices of practicum opportunities, compiles them into one e-mail with other opportunities they receive, and sends out regular e-mails to students containing job and practicum placement opportunities. All students are automatically placed on their e-mail list serve when they enter the Mailman SPH. You should make sure that you are reviewing these opportunities. If you are not receiving OCS e-mails containing these opportunities, you should notify tcl1@columbia.edu or jp376@columbia.edu.
